Pistol - Combo Trigger Explained: Movement, Timing, and Execution

How does Indiana run this 'Pistol' action to get an open ROB shot in game 1 of the ECF?

What is a Pistol? A get/DHO followed by flare screen.

As you can see in the video this Pistol is a variation as it is a step up screen or ‘Angle’ pick followed by the picker receiving the flare screen.

I think one of the reasons Nesmith had space to shoot was because the Knicks did not switch and were not trying to switch Bridges off of Haliburton. So after Brunson hedges…

Nesmith sprints to his spot, giving Bryant plenty of time to get a good angle on the screen.

Another important point to note. Siakam cuts the pop. I mentioned this is the previous article.

This is a domino principle of 1 cant guard 2. If a player is popping out then the other player must cut. And vice versa.

I think another underrated part of this action was how fast it happened. And this is credit to all 5 offensive players getting to their space.
